Chris Mavinga Kung Fu Kicks Mehdi Carcela in the Face (Video)

worst challenge ever

In the last game of the season, Racing Genk won their third Belgian title after snatching a 1-1 draw at home to rivals Standard Liege.

But the match itself would be only a footnote in world soccer reports if it wasn’t for the horrible challenge of Genk’s defender Chris Mavinga (on loan from Liverpool) on Standard Liege’s winger Mehdi Carcela. Quite possibly one of the worst challenges ever.

With 26 minutes on the clock, Carcela ran down the right side and went to head the ball in front of him, when Mavinga came in and went all kung fu on him.

Carecela instantly fell down unconscious and had to be carried out on a stretcher while his teammates watched in shock. He regained consciousness during the halftime and according to initial reports is lucky to get away only with broken jaw, several broken teeth and severe damage to his nose. I mean really, he is lucky to still have his head on his shoulders!

Mavinga’s statement is one of the stupidest things I’ve heard. He says he was going for the ball (of course he was, op.a.) and simply didn’t see Carecela coming. Didn’t see him coming ??!!! Well, thank God for instant replays!

Since he manged to get away only with a yellow card, what Mavinga needs right now is for someone to give him a nice long vacation from soccer to contemplate about the stupidity of his actions. Or maybe he can join UFC?

For God sake, what is this??? Can’t believe my eyes, what a stupid Mavinga. He should be seriously penalized , yellow card is a shame, shame, shame on FIFA. He could have killed the guy in his peek career. Not sure what the rules are after reviewing the play, now that it was obvious that Mavinga made the wrong decision, but my guess that out of resprect to the game and its fans world wide, Mavinga should pay for the consequences of his decision. Otherwise, other players will feel ok defending with such a brutal way. My prayers go to Mehdi and hope that he gets back on soon.

Love you Mehdi, stay strong, you will make it.

What makes a good player? The magic word is: sense. Common sense, sense of responsibility, sense of rhythm. Get them all!
(Original twitter reply, that Mavinga didn’t let through, only “nobody blames you” like fan posts…)
