Last Friday, an estimated 1,500 mourners paid their last respects to Petty Officer Tumilson, a Navy SEAL who died in Afghanistan on Aug. 6.

Jon Thomas Tumilson was 35 when he lost his life in one of the deadliest attacks on U.S. forces in the decade-old U.S. deployment to Afghanistan.

He was among the 30 American troops killed when Taliban insurgents downed their Chinook helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade.

At his funeral in Rockford, Iowa, his beloved companion Hawkeye, ribbon-winning Labrador retriever, refused to leave the side of his master’s casket.

Hawkeye paid his last respects, walking up to the casket, lying down in front of it, and heaving a sigh.

This photo is one of the most touching things I’ve seen in a long time. Why cheapen it with the short film clip looped over and over to make it look longer with organ music dubbed in.

The picture is sad and touching. The video is pitiful.
