Did you know that the modern bra wasn’t patented until 1914?
The modern bra was created by a young New York socialite named Mary Phelps Jacob. At that time, the only acceptable undergarment was a corset stiffened with whaleback bones.
With two silk handkerchiefs and some pink ribbon, Mary had designed an alternative to the corset.
Women everywhere loved Mary’s new design and the first bra took off in a big way. It was later that a woman named Ida Rosenthal started designing bras with different cup sizes.
