Meet Harry, the six-day-old pygmy hippo calf from the Cango Wildlife Ranch in Oudtshoorn, South Africa. The 11 lbs baby was born last Thursday to Hilda and Herbert, the wildlife sanctuary’s pygmy hippopotamus pair, and named after Prince Harry of Wales.
Hilda’s track record is not the best when it comes to her ‘motherly skills’. The mother and calf were closely monitored, and after 5 hours of no feeding, the decision was made to pull the calf from its mom in the hopes of his survival. He is now being hand-reared by the ranch’s curator and caretaker Toni Inggs.
