Pilot JR Hott of Panhandle Helicopters captured this strange looking cloud formations in Panama City Beach, Florida. The spectacular ‘condo fog’ forms along the waterfront when moist, warm air blows in off the Gulf of Mexico. As the condo buildings force the air to climb, the slight cooling from the change in altitude is just enough to bring the air to its saturation point, creating a personal fog bank.
These strange, tsunami wave shaped clouds were seen across the sky last Friday in Birmingham, Alabama. The unusual phenomenon is an example of Kelvin-Helmholtz waves, when a fast layer moves over a slower layer and drags the top along creating a curled shape.
